Is Marriage Becoming Unpopular
The marriage institution which God has put together in the Garden of Eden is treated as something trivial, and it is mocked, sneered at, and jeered by skeptics when a man enters into a marital relationship with a woman. This relationship is a divine plan and not of man's making. Marriage has within it tremendous possibilities and its influence is far reaching. It has built into it many responsibilities, but this great institution is under attack, and for some it is becoming unpopular and is losing much of its sacredness.
Our generation has been gradually moving away from the model marriage, and for them marriage is becoming unpopular, as they try to replace it with polygamous marriages, civil union, convenient marriages, same sex marriage, unmarried singles, cohabitors, remarriages, divorce, stepfather and stepmother families. There has been an increase in these types of unions which are becoming very fashionable today.
Marriage is intended to be a blessing to the human race. Its real purpose is for people to procreate, maintain a social bond, and enjoy real happiness. When people adhere to these principles it becomes such a happy blissful union and is sweetened from year to year by love, purity, sincerity, loyalty, and truthfulness. With such a relationship marriage is not becoming unpopular. It should not be a means of monetary or legal status benefit. This union should be a life time commitment of a man and a woman to be together forever. It is the thorough blending of personalities and joining together in love and sympathy. The companions are equal and truly fitted. No one should have total control of the other, or be treated as inferior. Each one should have a certain amount of independence to make rational and wise choices.
It would appear that marriage is becoming unpopular, but it is not so. The newspapers and the electronic media are only highlighting the nonmarital, the same sex marriage, and the divorced. Regardless to the laws that are enacted by governments allowing all sorts of marriages, many people are following the biblical model of marriage. The data collected might show a decline in the number of marriges as compared with the present population, but one has to consider the numerical growth of youth adult sector which has increased over the married population. Many of the young people are getting married, but the divorce rate is causing some alarm, and many of the youths are delaying their marriages to find a partner with compatible qualities.
The time has come that one should cease publicizing that marriage is becoming unpopular, but various groups such as the church, the media houses, schools and the society as a whole bring into focus on a regular basis the successful marriages. The christians and non christian marriages with their happy homes and families should be one's focus from which others can see genuine examples that can be emulated. Men would try to change, but what God has put in place is unchangeable..
